You can play games at 180-200FPS! Crazy good! And not just gaming laptops. If you’re a content creator & do video editing, this can be one of the better laptops out there.
Asus ROG Strix G16 Box Content
ROG Strix G16 is a Big laptop! It has a big brick & a 280W charger, and you also have this power cable and documents. I liked the box. It has nice packaging.
Asus ROG Strix G16 Design
ROG Strix G16 has ROG Intelligent Cooling & ROG Nebula Display. It has a Nebula Display & there are many things we’ll talk about them. But looking at it from the front, you’ll immediately know this is a ROG laptop.
Yes, you can see the logo, and it’s a gaming laptop, so it should have amazing thermals. And the outlet is on the right & left & the back as well. It has a heat sink to help remove hot air and cool the laptop.
The rubber feet are quite thick, so when they rest on the table, there’s much space for air to travel. The build is really good, made of hard plastic & is extremely good quality. And it’s on the heavier side.
Weight: If I talk about the ROG Strix G16 weight, Its weight is 2.37 kg, so it’s on the heavier side & that’s expected for a gaming laptop.
Asus ROG Strix G16 Ports & Buttons
On the right are 2 USB Type-A ports, but nothing on the backside. On the left is a power port, RJ45, HDMI port & 2 USB Type C ports. There’s a Thunderbolt port to charge your laptop with it.
You don’t need to carry the big adapter. And there’s a 3.5mm jack. It has a white strip of RGB lights & you get a speaker grill on both sides.
Generally, gaming laptops have thick bezels. And surprisingly, despite having such small bezels, you get a 720p webcam on top.
Asus ROG Strix G16 Display
Asus ROG Strix G16 gets a 15-inch laptop screen & a 16-inch laptop screen, and that’s great! Design & Features. The ROG logo is a little different & has a filter. The chin is slightly thick & it’s written ROG Strix.
It’s a very impressive display. The small and middle version starts at Rs 1.45L. And there’s a variant above 18 inches. If you want a big screen, you can look at that. That’s the highest variant.
As I said, the 16-inch QHD display is a Nebula display. They’ve introduced a lot of new things in this variant this year. For example, it has a 240Hz fast refresh rate. It’s amazing for gamers! We played GTA and Doom on it. If you play on FHD settings, you can play it at 180FPS.
If you play other games, you can go beyond 200 as well. The display is 100% sRGB, so it’s good in terms of color accuracy.
It has Dolby Vision support, so that’s there. And it’s a bright display with 500 nits, so you shouldn’t have too many problems outdoors. But once again, I love this display! It’s one of the better displays I’ve seen because of the thin bezels.
Asus ROG Strix G16 Keyboard
The keys are very nice & the travel distance is good. It’s tactile & has a 2mm travel distance. And the gaming keys are highlighted & remembered.
It’s an RGB backlit keyboard. It’s a glass touchpad & the size is pretty big. And it has a satin finish, so you’ll feel good about it. One thing we noticed is that this touchpad isn’t a Numpad.
Generally, laptops have num pads & this doesn’t have that. It doesn’t have a fingerprint sensor for power on & off. Their transparent keys look beautiful. If you open it & start the machine, you’ll love this! I love this keyboard! It’s not biometric & it doesn’t have Windows Hello support.
Asus ROG Strix G16 Specifications
Asus ROG Strix G16 has Intel Core i9 13th Gen, which is the highest variant. But you also get an i7 variant. All of them are 13th-generation. There are different variants for GPUs as well. There’s RTX 4050, 4060. And the highest variant of 18 inches has RTX 4070. You can play games, but if you do video editing on Premiere Pro or Windows, you can easily do it & edit videos.
It has DDR5 RAM, so that’s good, and it starts from 16GB, but you can extend it to 64 GB. So there are extra slots. The PCIe 4.0 storage type is 1TB. So the read & write speeds are fast. You get 4-4.5Gbps read & write speeds. So a big thumbs up there!
Asus ROG Strix G16 Performance
Regarding performance, Asus ROG Strix G16 is one of the better ones out there. That’s why I said, if you’re looking for a gaming laptop, this should be on your list, it has HDMI 2.1, so you can play 4K 120FPS on a big screen.
Battery: We tested the battery life of the Asus ROG Strix G16, and you don’t get more than 3 hours of battery life. If you play games & do intensive gaming, it’ll be less than that. But 3-3.5 hours is the maximum battery time you’ll get out of this laptop.
Asus ROG Strix G16 Cooling
Thermals are very important for a gaming laptop. They’ve said that intelligent cooling is a tri-fan design, which means there’s a CPU, GPU, fan & an auxiliary fan. Not just that, the gaming keys like the ASDF.
There’s a fan below that. So you’ll always feel cool. It’s hot on the top, but the keyboard area is cool there. And yes, liquid metal is used for heat dissipation, which makes heat dissipation better & thermals better too. But you know, when the fans start, there’s a lot of noise. But this intelligent cooling is at 0dB, so there’s no noise.
You can take it to 60-70%, but the fans won’t turn on. If you’re doing something very intensive, you’ll hear the fan but not that much. So this is a silent & cool laptop.
It’s a ROG laptop with an Armoury Crate dashboard. So if you’re a geeky type & want to overclock the CPU or GPU, you can do that with the Armoury Crate.
Asus ROG Strix G16 Multimedia
The display is so good. It’s great for multimedia consumption. Because of Dolby Vision, you get a high dynamic range. It’s great for movies, and Netflix.
The audio is good, but the sound is less if the fan is on longer. But generally, fans don’t kick in for normal usage & it also has a good multimedia output.
Connectivity: Asus ROG Strix G16 has WiFi 6E, so that’s good. It has Bluetooth 5.2 support, which is also very nice.
Asus ROG Strix G16 OS UI
OS UI is Windows 11 Home Edition. There are some extra features in Windows, like Dolby Access, where you get lifetime support for Dolby Vision & Dolby Atmos.
Interestingly, it’s the same color, Eclipse Grey, but it has a new color, Volt Green. I don’t know how many people will go for that, but it’s a different, fancy color.
I liked this laptop, especially because of the display. Because you interact with the display & in a small form factor, you get a 16” display which is very color-accurate.
It’s good for multimedia & gaming too, but if you want to do video and photo editing, this laptop is also good.
So I’ll recommend it even for content creators. The battery life is a little less, but it’s a good gaming laptop.
