The Redmi Note 12 series, the phone which I had been waiting has arrived. The Note 12 & Note 12 Pro+, were launched in China.

This is the Redmi Note 12 Pro. It’ll come to India as Redmi Note Pro Plus. So, the highest variant of Note 12. But I want to say something about this Note 12 series. They’re launching a lot of phones, they should revert back to those 3-4 phones in that series.

Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G Box Contents

It comes in a White box with ‘Redmi’ written on the top. the case, it looks squarish this time. It’s really square. And we have some documentation. It’s quite different. It doesn’t seem like it’s a part of the Note 12 series. And then you have the USB type-A to type-C cable. Charging cable. And you get a 67W charger.

Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G Design

The shape of the phone, it’s so squarish.  All these Note 12 series phones, especially Note 12 & Note 12 Pro+, were curved, a little roundish but this is square. Squarish design with the sides also being absolutely flat.

When people will see this phone then I don’t know, some will like it very much, others won’t like it a bit. So I’ll say this is a polarizing design. But I have to give kudos to Xiaomi that they tried something new. Because the Note series always has a very traditional look. So, this experiment is good. Good.

Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G In Hand Feel

If I talk about the in-hand feel, it fits nicely but seems a bit big. If you have small hands, you’ll feel it’s a bit bigger. But, uh, feels good. Not bad. And the edges are a bit sharp but they won’t bite. Don’t worry. On the matter of weight, it feels quite light.

That’s even though Note 12 & Pro+ had glass-back, this feels a little plastic-y. Even from the weight perspective, it is lighter. So, it might be a plastic back.

I think it should be around 180/185g Let’s test it out. 187g. 188.4g! Just a 1.5g difference. I’ll say it is lighter. Despite being a big phone, weighing 188g, it is light.

Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G Ports & Buttons

Talking about the ports & buttons, it is busy on the top & the bottom. On the top, there is a 3.5mm jack, a speaker grill, a noise-canceling microphone & an IR blaster.

On the bottom, again a speaker grill, a USB type-C port, a microphone, & a SIM card tray. The SD card slot. the SD card slot is not there. it does not have expandable storage. So, that is there. By the way, the base has 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. Not a 64GB storage variant.

Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G Display

It is a squarish display. And the bezels, especially the top and bottom ones are really thin. The sides are thin but look at the chin, it is only 2.8mm.

So, it really looks like a modern phone. There is a center punch-hole camera. I think the overall display is good. It is a 6.67″ FHD+ 120Hz AMOLED display.

The brightness is 900 nits. It is a little less since, I think, in Note 12 it was 1000nits. This one has 900 nits. But again, I’ll say that 900 is more than enough. If you use it outdoors, you won’t have any problems.

Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G Specification.

let’s quickly talk about the specifications. This comes on the Dimensity 1080 processor which we’ve been talking about for so long. Many of the Redmi number & Note 12 series are going to be on the 1080 5G processor. And it is a capable processor.

If I compare it with Dimensity 920 then yes, it is an upgrade. If I compare it with 778, then I’ll say it comes in between them.

Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G Performance

Its AnTuTu score is 4,10,000. We have the 6GB RAM 128GB storage variant which is very decent. We tried installing PUBG & COD mobile, but it didn’t happen because there is no Play Store. It is a Chinese variant with MIUI, so we couldn’t install the Play Store.

So, we could not do it. But performance, swipes, and touches are absolutely great. Since this is a Chinese variant, there is much bloatware.

Variants – Talking about variants, the base variant has 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. The top one has around 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. The Chinese price is ¥1700, so after converting it comes to around ₹19k-20k. In India, if it comes as Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus and it is ₹20k

Battery – On the matter of battery, it is a 5000mAh battery with 67W charging. Pro+, which is a Chinese variant, that will come as Xiaomi in India, has 120W charging & 200MP camera. In this, you get a 50MP ionic 766 camera which is tried, tested & optimized.

I’ll talk about the camera so don’t wait for it. I’m going to tell you some interesting things but before that let’s finish up the specifications. UFS 2.2 is the storage type & LPDDR4X is the RAM type. Though, LPDDR5 would be good.

Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G Sensor

Talking about the sensors, there are all the sensors. Side-mounted fingerprint sensor and face Unlock are there. I think it is high time that the fingerprint should be in-display sensor now. It’s an AMOLED display so if they had given in-display, that would’ve been good.

Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G Multimedia

In one thing, it excels so much that it gives you a flagship-level experience. And that is multimedia. There is a stereo speaker which is very good, loud & of good quality. There is the support of Dolby Vision.

That AMOLED display along with the Dolby Vision support gives an absolutely great multimedia experience. And the display is big & immersive. So, full marks for multimedia.

Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G Connectivity

Talking about connectivity, it has a big thumbs up. Why? It supports Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2 & 5G, This is a Chinese variant so we don’t know the bands. I’m sure that it’ll support all the Indian bands. So, don’t worry about that. Dual 4G VoLTE & Wi-Fi Calling are supported. So, all that is there.

Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G Features

Talking more, there is IP53 certification. One thing, there should be the protection of Gorilla Glass 5. We don’t know about any of that since this is a Chinese variant. But when it comes to India, it might have some protection.

I think Gorilla Glass 5 but I’m not sure. There is no notification light & FM radio but the SAR values are within limits.

Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G Camera

talking about the camera. Yes. I’m happy that the Redmi Note 12 Pro doesn’t have the 200MP that the Pro+ had. It has OIS but the primary sensor is 50MP IMX766 which is really good.

The photos come out really well. The second camera is 8MP ultrawide and then 2MP macro. This is the triple camera setup on the rear. On the front, you get a center punch hole of a 16MP selfie sensor.

the color accuracy is good as well as the sharpness. Since the display is good, it looks good, and the colors look punchy here. Overall, if you take photos in different conditions, they turn out great. And that is because of that IMX766.

But again I think this camera setup is really good. And due to the OIS, you can shoot really stable videos. For the rear camera, there is a support of 4K 30fps. In the front, you get 1080p but on the rear, it’s 4K. If they would’ve given the macro of 5MP instead of 2MP, that would be good.

You can record macro videos on that. Time-lapse, Slow-Motion, and all these basic features are available in the camera.

Conclusion

This phone will come by the name Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus in India. And its price is ₹20,000. I will give it a thumbs up. Definitely. I mean the competition has some severe competition on hand. And you know that people prefer phones of ₹20k rather than ₹15k.

So, this is going to be the highest-selling phone of 2023. It seems like it if it’ll come at that price.
